Coursework: 

This page is dedicated to the courses and assignments completed during my four years as an undergraduate at Clemson University. My major combines courses of Spanish, health sciences, and culture.  On this page, I demonstrate artifacts that pertain to these courses as well.

Spanish 2010 - Intermediate Spanish 

Intermediate course to practice listening, speaking, and writing in Spanish. The development of grammatical structures and basic vocabulary are improved as well as literary and cultural aspects.

Spanish 3050 - Intermediate Spanish Conversation and Composition I 

Intermediate Spanish conversation and composition course that focused on the practice of speaking Spanish with an emphasis on vocabulary, pronuniciation, intonation, and overall comprehension. 

Spanish 4190 - Health and the Hispanic Community 

Study of health within Hispanic communities and the factors that contribute to their overall quality of healthcare. Also, focused on studying the cultural aspects that pertain to health and health services in Hispanic populations. 

Spanish 3180 - Spanish through Culture 

Topic-generated conversation course in Spanish through a broad array of artistic manifestations in the Hispanic World emphasizing conversation and short written exercises. Focuses on one Hispanic culture topic which provides a basis for class discussion and short written compositions in Spanish.

Spanish 3090 - Introduction to Spanish Phonetics

Study of basic concepts of phonetics and phonology, fundamental principles of Spanish pronunciation and International Phonetic Alphabet.

Spanish 2020 - Intermediate Spanish

Intermediate course that advances listening, speaking, and writing in Spanish. A higher level of grammatical structures and basic vocabulary is learned as well as the incorporation of literary and cultural aspects.

Spanish 3150 - Spanish for Health Professionals 

Spanish for health professionals course that aimed to teach medical concepts and terminology in Spanish. This course was specifially designed for those who plan to work in professions related to public health care.

Spanish 4180 - Technical Spanish for Health Professionals 

Technical Spanish for health management professionals involving technical health communication in Spanish with an emphasis on the managerial and business aspects of the international health industry.

Spanish 3110 - Survey of Spanish-American Literature 

Spanish literature course that focuses on literary movements, influences, authors, and works from the Colonial period to the present.

Spanish 3999 - Master Painters of Spain

Spanish course designed to study  five of the greatest painters in the history of Spanish art: El Greco, Velázquez, Goya, Picasso, and Dali. Due to the diversity of styles in which they worked, this course also focuses on the general characteristics of these artistic styles which frame these painters’ artistic trajectories.

Health 2020 - Introduction to Public Health

This introduction to public health course explores the forces that influence current health delivery systems, health practices, and trends. A thorough examination of population and public health theroies and models is also completed. 

Health 2980 -  Human Health and Disease

Human health and disease course that overviews behavioral, biological, and psyco-social factors that correlate with major human diseases and conditions. This course also emphasizes the best health practices to reduce diseases and negative conditions. 

Health 2030 - Overview of Health Care Systems

Provides an overview of health care systems as it introduces contexts on the American health care delivery system, specifically its foundation, primary characterisitics, resources, and processes. Furthermore, fee-for-service, managed care, and integrated care organizations that correlate with the ideas of access, cost, and quality of care are discussed.

Health 4900 - Research and Evaluation Strategies for Public Health

Focuses on research and evaluation strategies for public health with an emphasis on the analysis of reported research. The concepts of ethical, moral, and legal issues in relation to research are also discussed.

Health 3250 - Infectious Disease and Exposures 

Introduction to communicable diseases commonly seen worldwide, and methods used to identify, treat, control and prevent these infections. Students examine how individuals with an infectious disease are a special population that requires a different level of care when being treated within a health system or within the community. 

Health 2400 - Determinants of Health Behavior 

This determinants of health behavior course analyzes health behavior based on psychological, social, cultural, and environmental factors through the introduction of health behavior theories.

Health 3800 - Epidemiology 

Introduction to epidemiology principles and methods that are used to study the origin, distribution, and control of disease.

Health 4700 -  Global Health

Introduction to global health concepts that aim to deepen student's knowledge of global health and how public health work is conducted on an international level. This course also presents the concepts of assessment of international health needs and designing, implementing, managing, and evaluating public health programs in international settings. 

Health 4ooo - Rural Health 

This course introduces students to rural health and the unique social, economic, and cultural influences on the health of those in rural communities. It provides an examination of how those in rural communities experience health disparities and ways to achieve rural health equity. There is a focus on unique subgroups within rural communities and how specific social, environment, economic, and behavior determinants influence health.

Chemistry 1010 + 1011 - General Chemistry 

Introduction to the elementary concepts of chemistry through classroom and laboratory experience. Emphasizes chemical reactions and the use of symbolic representation, the mole concept and its applications and molecular structure.

Chemistry 2230 + 2270 -Organic Chemistry  

Introductory course in the principles of organic chemistry and the derivation of these principles from a study of the properties, preparations, and interrelationships of the important classes of organic compounds.

Microbiology 3050 + 3051 - General Microbiology 

Course that focuses on morphology, physiology, classification, distribution, and cultivation of microorganisms.

Biology 2230 + 2231 - Human Anatomy and Physiology II 

Continuation of biology 2220 covering endocrine, reproductive, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, urinary, and digestive systems; fluid and electrolyte balance.

Biology 2220 + 2221 - Human Anatomy and Physiology I 

Basic introductory course in integrated human anatomy and physiology covering cells and tissues; integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems; sensory organs.

Chemistry 1020 - General Chemistry 

Continuation of CH 1010, treating solutions, rates of reactions, chemical equilibrium, electrochemistry, chemistry of selected elements, and an introduction to organic chemistry.

Health 2600 - Medical Terminology and Communication

Skills in building, analyzing, defining, pronouncing, and spelling medical terms related to the human body are developed and applied through electronic communication.

Biology 1030 + 1050 - General Biology + Lab

Biology course that includes evolutionary approach to cells, cellular activities, genetics, and animal diversity emphasizing the processes of science.

Biology 1040 + 1060 - General Biology + Lab

Continuation of biology 1030. Includes an evolutionary approach to human anatomy and physiology, plant diversity, morphology, and physiology and principles of ecology.

Chemistry 2240 + 2280 - Organic Chemistry II

Continuation of chemistry 2230; mechanisms of organic reactions including photochemistry and Woodward-Hoffman rules; modern synthetic organic chemistry.

Psychology Coursework

Psychology 2010 - Introduction to Psychology 

Introduction to the study of behavior. Analysis of the biological bases of behavior, learning, thinking, motivation, perception, human development, social behavior, and the application of basic principles to more complex phenomena such as education, personal adjustment, and interpersonal relations.

Psychology 3330 - Cognitive Psychology 

Study of higher-order mental processing in humans. Topics include memory, learning of concepts, problem solving, and the psychology of language.

Psychology 3520 - Social Psychology 

Survey course analyzing human social behavior from the perspective of the individual as a participant in social relationships. Major emphasis is on the study of such contemporary social processes as attitude formation and change, interpersonal relations, conformity, conflict resolution, aggression and violence, social communication, and group phenomena.

Psychology 3240 - Physiological Psychology 

Study of human neuroanatomy with emphasis on the function of the nervous and endocrine systems. Discusses the biological basis of behavior in its normal and abnormal dimensions.

Psychology 3400 - Lifespan Developmental Psychology 

Survey of current theory and research concerned with the psychological aspects of human growth and development across the entire lifespan. Major topics include developmental methods, physical maturation, cognition, socialization, personality, psycholinguistics, intelligence, learning, behavior problems, and exceptionality.

Psychology 3830 - Abnormal Psychology 

Introduction to the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses. Uses current diagnostic standards for mental disorders as a framework for understanding the symptoms, causes, and treatments of the most commonly observed maladaptive behaviors.
