Sierra Rosado
B.S. Language and International Health
About Me

Hello! My name is Sierra Rosado, and I am a proud student at Clemson University, pursuing a degree in Language and International Health Studies with a focus on the Spanish language. This unique interdisciplinary program has given me the opportunity to combine my admiration for language and culture with my passion for health as well. From the start of my college journey, I knew I wanted to learn how I could make impacts within the world of health, and this major has empowered me to understand how to make differences within communities in need of health services. Additionally, what truly drew me to this major was the combination of both health science and humanity aspects. By incorporating cultural perspective into health studies, I have been able to understand social determinants of health from a global standpoint. I have always been interested in advocating for global health, and my coursework in my major has allowed me to explore health from a more international perspective as well. The learning of biological, cultural, social, and economic aspects of health that shape the well being of populations has encouraged me to want to engage in a career oriented in public health.

As I further progressed in my studies, I realized that I wanted a more broad focus in the health field which caused me to commit my career focus to public health. I realized that public health offered a wider platform for addressing the factors and issues that contribute to mental and physical health across populations. With this, I also realized that public health would allow me to focus on the advocacy and policy aspects that correlate with improving healthcare services for a broader community of people. Furthermore, my shift to a focus in public health has allowed me to recognize the essential skills that I have developed that will be crucial for my future career.

Ultimately, I believe that my chosen profession in public health will allow me to live out my values and make a meaningful contribution to the world of public health. Public health requires hard work, dedication, and a deep commitment to improving the well being of others - qualities that I have developed throughout my academic journey. I am confident that my strengths of problem solving, organization, independence, and open mindedness will further help me succeed in the field of public health as well. These strengths will allow me to approach public health issues with a unique perspective and a strong work ethnic, which is vital to serving communities in an efficient manner. Overall, I stand out in my desired career field because of the values and strengths that I have acquired during my time at Clemson University. Public health is a challenging yet rewarding field, and I am prepared to put the time and effort required to succeed.
